Uptime monitoring · Made in South Africa

Eish, is it down?
You'll know first.

EishUp checks your websites, servers and DNS every minute from several locations. It only raises the alarm when most of them agree something is wrong, so a blip on one network doesn't page you at 3am.

Fewer false alarms, by design

Most "downtime" alerts are a problem on the monitoring side: one bad route or one overloaded server. EishUp checks your site from several probe nodes and lets them vote.

1

Every probe checks

Each probe node checks your target on its own, on your schedule, from its own network.

2

The probes vote

Your monitor is only marked down when more than half of the reporting probes fail. A probe that goes offline doesn't vote, so it can't cause an alert.

3

You hear about it

You get an alert by email or Telegram saying which locations failed and why, and another when the monitor recovers, with the total downtime.

1 of 3 failing → Degraded

Probably a network issue on one probe's side. Shown on your dashboard, with an optional warning alert.

2 of 3 failing → Down

A real outage. Your alert channels are notified straight away.

Everything you need to keep watch

HTTP & HTTPS

Choose which status codes count as healthy, check for a keyword in the page, send custom headers, follow redirects, and catch invalid or expired TLS certificates.

Ping

ICMP checks for servers, routers and anything with an IP address, with packet loss and round-trip time from each location.

DNS

Resolve A, AAAA, CNAME, MX, TXT or NS records through any public resolver, and alert if the answer isn't what you expect.

Email & Telegram alerts

Send alerts to as many channels as you like. Each alert names the probes that failed, and recovery messages include how long the outage lasted.

Latency per location

Response-time charts for each probe node over the last hour, day, week or month, plus uptime percentages for 24 hours to 90 days.

Built for teams

Share an organisation with colleagues. Admins can change monitors; members get read-only access.

Questions

What does "eish" mean?

It's a South African exclamation, roughly "oh no". It's what you say when you find out your website has been down all morning. We'd rather you found out from us, straight away.

How do you decide something is down?

Every probe node checks your target on its own schedule. If more than half of the probes currently reporting say it's failing, the monitor is down and you're alerted. If only some fail, it's degraded: it shows on your dashboard, and you can choose to get warned about it too.

Where are the probes?

We currently run probe nodes in several networks in South Africa, with more regions on the way. Each monitor page shows the latency and result from every probe.

Can I monitor internal or private addresses?

No. For security, probes won't connect to private, loopback or link-local addresses. EishUp monitors services that are reachable from the internet.

Is it really free?

Yes. The free plan includes 10 monitors with every feature listed above. Paid plans with more capacity are coming later; the free plan isn't going away.
